We caught up with Lissette in Texas, as she was wrapping up one of her legendary swim fit events, and she agreed to share some of her tips and tricks for doing a dressing room fit check. As Lissette tells the women at her events, “If a suit doesn’t fit right in the store or at home, it’s not going to feel right—or look right—at the beach.”
Different silhouettes and swim fabrics are going to feel a little different on, even in the same numerical size! If you love the look of a suit, take a few sizes into the dressing room with you and put it to the test.
Start With the Straps
Lissette’s Rule: “You’re looking for straps that you can comfortably slip a thumb under.”
Too Tight: “If they’re digging in at all, grab the next size up!” Wider straps and self-tie options can offer an even more comfortable fit.
Too Loose: If the straps slip off, even adjusted to their tightest setting, consider trying on a strapless swimsuit. Bonus: no tan lines to distract from that off-the-shoulder coverup!

Check the Bottoms: Sit. Step. Shimmy.
Lissette’s Advice: “Once you’re in the suit, march in place or even jump up and down to make sure everything stays in place without any riding up. The bottom of your suit should be snug—no surf’s-up slippage—but not so snug you can’t stroll the sand without readjusting.”
One-Piece or Two-Piece: “One-piece suits are wonderful for ease, structure and support, but they can be tricky for ladies with longer torsos. Our tankinis offer a similar look, but with mix and match options that help you build a customized fit from bottom to top.”
Find the Right Top: More than Just Moral Support
Mind the Gap: A well-fitting top is key to confidence and style on the seaside. “The suit’s cups should be smooth and flush to the skin—If you’re seeing any gapping in the top, I recommend sizing down or exploring another style. A bandeau tankini (or bandini) can be very flattering and double as a chic top paired with flowy beach pants.”
For Fuller Busts: Look for halter bikini and tankini tops with wider straps for maximum coverage and comfort. Styles with underwire and molded cups offer ultra-flattering support and shaping for all bust sizes.
Lissette’s Top Tip: “Lift those arms for one more fit check and ensure everything’s smooth around the underarms. If you’re noticing pinching, bulging, or riding up, go to a different style or larger size. If it feels too loose, size down and see the difference.”
